Horbaach, Piping Rock and Nature Truth are three US-made brands that produce Longjack Tongkat Ali supplements at 1,600mg per serving, promising better value at affordable prices below $10 per bottle.
At a glance, 1,600mg Tongkat Ali is considered the best deal you could buy on Amazon at attractive prices of between $8.99 to $10.99 per 120 capsules with an average of 4.2 star consumer rating.
But is it worth buying one?
In this review, we perform a technical assessment and deep-dive analysis of popular Tongkat Ali 1600mg brands to investigate whether high-dose formulation is effective, safe or perhaps a marketing ploy that will convince you to buy because of its low prices.
Overview
Horbäach is a US-brand owned by Piping Rock Health Products Inc, a US company founded in 2011 by Scott & Michael Rudolph, a father and son duo based in Las Vegas. In addition, our analysis showed that both Horbaach Tongkat Ali and Piping Rock Tongkat Ali supplements are owned by the same family-run US company, which sources raw ingredients from Indonesia.
On this note, you may buy cGMP-certified Horbaach Tongkat Ali in UK or Europe too, but these supplements are not made in Europe and the brand is not associated or owned by any German companies or individuals.
Both brands offer the same level of quality as Longjack and Tongkat Ali are known to be the same plant (Eurycoma Longifolia). Despite the reported dosage should be within 100mg – 400mg daily, Horbaach and Piping Rock offer buyers a 1,600mg amount per serving, equivalent to 800mg per capsule x 2 servings daily.
American consumers are easily attracted to low priced Tongkat Ali brands like Horbaach, thinking that it is a Toyota Prius that takes you from point A to point B. When it comes to quality health supplements, it does not work that way.
According to Susan, a certified nutritionist in New York, this is far from what consumers will benefit in reality due lack of clinical testing despite being GMP certified and lab tested.
“With rising of white-label US Tongkat Ali brands, GMP-certified or lab-tested Tongkat Ali does not mean it is potent, effective or the best for testosterone or men’s health” she said.
Looking at various white-label Tongkat Ali brands on Amazon, many are using deceptive marketing to trick customers into buying a higher Tongkat Ali amount by using rather a confusing term “amount per serving” as shown below.
Qualitative Assessment & Insights
Lets look at a deep-dive review of Hoorbach Longjack Tongkat Ali based on our independent evaluation.
Purity: Horbäach Longjack Tongkat Ali label shows that its Tongkat Ali capsules contain non-bioactive ingredients such as rice fillers (maltodextrin) and other food additives such as magnesium stearate which are known to reduce the purity. In its original form, 100% pure Tongkat Ali extract contains no fillers, binders or food agents, making Horbaach Longjack Tongkat Ali a less potent than originally claimed.
Quality: Hoorbach Longjack Tongkat Ali is lab tested for quality, packaged and GMP-certified in the USA, but its Indoneian Tongkat Ali extract has not been clinically tested on humans, reducing its overall quality score compared to other premium clinically tested extracts. Furthermore the addition of rice fillers and magnesium found in Longjack Tongkat Ali may impair the overall efficacy and effectiveness to health.
Standardization: Hoorbach Longjack Tongkat Ali does not publish its Certificate of Analysis (COA) report on its website suggests it may not be using standardized extract. This lack of transparency makes it challenging for consumers to verify the potency or efficacy due to lack of information on its bioactive ingredients such as percentage of eurycomanone, eurypeptides, glycosaponin, polysaccharides, zinc, potassium and other minerals compared other well known premium brands such as AKARALI Physta®.
Professional Use: Hoorbach Longjack Tongkat Ali is not NSF Sports Certified, thus deemed not suitable for athletes use. The brand has never been performance tested by recreational athletes and lack of testimonials make it a less reputable brand amongst sports communities.
Deep-dive Purity & Potency Test
A High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) profiling test conducted by a team of research scientists on Horbaach LongJack 200:1 Tongkat Ali supplement showed low levels of eurycomanone (<0.06%) and total protein (2%) but with high level of polysaccharide (75%).
The high level of polysaccharides (above standardized biomarker of 40%) was due to the excessive amount of corn starch fillers (i.e maltodextrin) added to the Tongkat Ali ingredient, which in itself is a form a polysaccharide – a chain of glucose molecules that contribute to the increase of the total polysaccharide concentration.
Brand
| Eurycomanone | Total Protein | Polysaccharide | Glycosaponin |
Horbaach Longjack Tongkat Ali 200:1 Capsule
| 0.06% | 2.0% | 75.28% | 35.01% |
Naturebell Tongkat Ali 200:1 Capsule
| 0.24% | 4.7% | 65.08% | 32.86% |
From a potency standpoint, the low levels of eurycomanone below 0.8% suggests that Horbaach is considered less potent compared to similar priced Tongkat Ali brands such as Naturebell (with higher eurycomanone content at 0.24%). Premium clinically tested Tongkat Ali brands such as AKARALI may be a better alternative for American and British consumers if you want a stronger extract due to its higher bioactive ingredients that are backed by 26 clinical trials and research studies.
Whilst the brand is regarded as less pure due to high maltodextrin content, the excipient (i.e adulterant) found in Horbaach supplements may be safe for general consumption, although the side effects at high dosages are not being lab tested. However, pre-diabetic and diabetic patients may exercise extra caution when taking Horbaach Tongkat Ali supplements as maltodextrin has a high glycemic index which can lead to insulin resistance in the long term.
Am I getting the best value from 1,600mg Tongkat Ali exract?
The short answer is, you get what you paid for at what Horbaach and Piping Rock is offering, but in reality, you are getting low potency (i.e 80mg of Tongkat Ali per capsule with less than 0.05% eurycomanone) and the remaining non-active ingredients that may not benefit your health.
Effectively, what was initially marketed as 1,600mg Tongkat Ali means consumers are getting only 10% of pure Tongkat Ali in each capsule in a non-standardized form, and since it is not clinically tested, we found no evidence to conclude that it brings value from an efficacy or potency standpoint.
| Total amount per serving* (as per the bottle label) *2 serving daily | 1,600mg |
| Total actual amount per capsule (based on maximum capacity for size “0” capsule) | 800mg |
| Actual Tongkat Ali amount per capsule (as per the bottle label) | 80mg |
| Other remaining ingredients* per capsule *Rice powder (filler), magnesium stearate, maltodextrin (eg: corn starch) and other unknown ingredients | 800mg – 80mg = 720mg |
If you are buying a Horbaach, Piping Rock or any 1,600mg LongJack Tongkat Ali supplements, please be careful to read the labels to ensure you are consuming or getting the right amount for the price you pay for.
To get better clarity, use this guide to ensure you are getting optimal Tongkat Ali amount per capsule as the recommended efficacy dosage (for it to work) is between 200mg to 400mg of pure Tongkat Ali root extract.
In this technical review, we shall also assess the performance of top three popular 1,600 Longjack Tongkat Ali based on potency (strength), efficacy (effectiveness), and other quality manufacturing attributes that may contribute to the 4-star or higher review ratings on Amazon.
Always check the ingredients, where it is sourced from and what technology is used to produce the extract powder before buying Piping Rock, Horbaach or any other Longjack in the US.
Warning:
Taking Tongkat Ali supplements that contain impurities, adulterated with other food ingredients may affect potency, efficacy or other side effects. Please consult your healthcare professionals, nutritionist or dietitian to ensure the Tongkat Ali’s bioactive ingredients are fully understood, transparent and type of extract used before consuming 1,600mg Longjack Tongkat Ali or in high doses.
But wait, isn't 1,600mg Tongkat Ali the best value for money?
The short answer is, no you are not getting the best value from buying a 1,600mg Longjack Tongkat Ali from Nature’s Truth, Horbaach or Piping Rock at $10.99 or even at discounted price of $8.99 for a bottle of 120 capsules.
Firstly, these brands don’t offer Tongkat Ali extract that is standardized, which are reported and highly regarded by herbalists, medical professionals and nutritionist as the best in the market. Instead, most 1,600mg Tongkat Ali brands we found contain non-standardized extract at lower ratio of 20:1 and this did not meet the bioactive threshold values (or specifications) set by the internationally acclaimed Tongkat Ali industry standard, known as the M2409.
Now, second most important point is that the actual amount contained in the capsule is 80mg of Tongkat Ali per capsule, which is far less than 1,600mg based on was advertised, marketed and labeled on the bottles.
So you are not getting the best value, you could be shortchanged and sometimes be a victim of a deceptive marketing strategy.
Facts behind 1,600mg Tongkat Ali extract
The 1,600mg Tongkat Ali found in some brands that source their powder extract from Indonesia or China, with 90% of the extract containing rice fillers, magnesium stearate and other ingredients. That is the reason most users and first-time buyers reported no testosterone or libido effects after taking 1,600mg longjack Tongkat Ali product such as Horbaach, Piping Rock or Nature’s Truth.
Further investigation showed that the 1,600mg Longjack Tongkat Ali is written on label as “amount per serving”, an industry term that describes an amount that someone would typically consume per serving. To avoid confusion, the amount per serving is not a recommended amount, nor it represents the amount that you will be getting per capsule.
By now, you may feel deceived, cheated or even frustrated that Tongkat Ali didn’t work on you due to the above reasons.
| Brand | Amount Per Serving | Extraction Ratio | Amount of Tongkat Ali content per capsule |
| Nature’s Truth LongJack Tongkat Ali | 1,600mg | 20:1 | 80mg |
| Piping Rock Longjack Tongkat Ali | 1,600mg | 20:1 | 80mg |
| Horbaach LongJack Tongkat Ali | 1,600mg | 20:1 | 80mg |

Is it safe to take 1,600mg Tongkat Ali?
Based on toxicity tests from animal studies, 1,600mg may be well above the allowable toxicity limit of 1,300mg per single dose. However, since the Horbaach, Nature’s Truth and Piping Rock actual contains 80mg of Tongkat Ali extract based on per advertised, it means that is well below the actual limit (provided the amount declared by each brand is true).
And since the maximum capacity of a size “0” capsule (i.e ¾ capsule size) can only accommodate between 600-800mg of Tongkat Ali powder, the remaining amount (800mg – 80mg = 720mg) may contain rice powder (and other form of fillers, adulterants or food ingredients) rather than the actual Tongkat Ali powder extract that should help you to achieve your health goals.
Whilst it may still be safe to take the supposedly pure and potent 1,600mg Tongkat Ali (that actually contains rice fillers or corn starch powder), should you continue to do so if it doesn’t give any significant energy boost, libido or even measured real world performance?
Technical Specification: Deep Dive Assessment
If you are in doubt which Tongkat Ali brand is better, Nature’s Truth, Horbaach and Piping Rock both offer similar value since these brands provide a total of 1,600mg per serving, taken from a 80mg Tongkat Ali at 20:1 extraction ratio.
Given the low quantity of pure Tongkat Ali extract contained in each capsule, it means there is no product differentiation between Nature’s Truth, Horbaach, Piping Rock and other similar Tongkat Ali that offers 1,600mg per serving.

Observation & Comparison
We observe high amount of rice powder (maltodextrin) which may dilute the potency and efficacy of Tongkat Ali brands carrying the 1,600mg offering. In addition, lack of transparency of the bioactive ingredients may impact the ability to deliver the intended health benefits such as increased testosterone production, improved mood, increased dopamine production or energy synthesis that should happen at the cell level.
Further assessment found no evidence on the type of Tongkat Ali extraction used, or the percentage of bioactive ingredients used by brands such as Horbaach, Nature’s Truth or Piping Rock on their official website – making it less pure, trustworthy, or even reputable.
| Bioactive Ingredients | Nature’s Truth Longjack Tongkat Ali | Horbaach Longjack Tongkat Ali | Piping Rock Longjack Tongkat Ali |
| % of eurycomanone | Not available | Not available | Not available |
| % of eurypeptides | Not available | Not available | Not available |
| % of glycosaponin | Not available | Not available | Not available |
| % of crude protein | Not available | Not available | Not available |
| % of polysaccharide | Not available | Not available | Not available |
Additionally, we found no clinical evidence that type of Tongkat Ali extract used by these brands, compared to other clinically tested Tongkat Ali that use proprietary extract in human clinical trials.
On the contrary, the claims of testosterone boosting abilities may be borrowed from well-established Tongkat Ali human clinical studies using Physta standardized hot water extract – a notable MIT-formulation that was well established since 2003, with records and citation spanning across more than 30-50 related studies.
Final Verdict
High dose Longjack Tongkat Ali supplements containing 800mg or 1,600mg per serving is something that we should be wary off due to lack of transparency and information on the purity levels, bioactive ingredients and type of extracts used.
Consumer demands better transparency on honest reviews related to exaggerated high content of Tongkat Ali products that comes with misleading, confusing and often deceptive labelling. Whilst there have been no reported hospitalized cases of consuming Horbaach, Nature’s Truth or Piping Rock, the effectiveness on testosterone, energy, libido and stamina warrants further clinically-backed evidence to ensure that it truly works.
